If you ever see me dancing, things have taken a terrible turn for the worse. And, well, that was my exact state this past Friday night. I went out on a party, as Johnny Cash used to say, and came home so late it was early. This is not my normal habit, and it has taken all weekend to decompress. Like a deep sea diver working out the nitrogen. I must say, though, it was a great way to rustle up a too-still pond, tilt the canoe a bit. I met up with several old friends and went from one end of town the the other, and at one point I was up on some sort of stage waving my arms about like a wounded bird, coaxing the local roller derby girls to knock back just one more tequila, bump up against each other, just for fun.

Oh the life of the modern cynic. And woe the very next day.

Did you get pictures? Sounds like fun, but the recoveries do get more difficult and take longer as the years go by. "I as good once as I ever was."

Geez I can't type today.

I am giggling at the image of you recovering from a heavy night.

But you ar enot alone, a couple of months ago-yes I am not the party type- I went with a few friend sto the North of iceland. There was a ball, we attended(there was nothing else to do!) and I am TOLD by the end of teh evening I was up on stage singing and dancing with the band. Now, I can´t sing, I guess everybody can move in soem way...but boy am I glad teh pictures made did turn out all blurry.
a) I wasn´t captured that well
b) My friends were shakey too ;)

This, too, shall pass!

I am picturing Tom Waits telling a story of a Saturday night he spent at home reading a book, drinking milk as he nervously adds "I am not that type, you know." :-P

Some of us were born sour and some need curdling.

A good time is the milk of a bad disposition.

golden, there is some god, because no one took photos.

minka, I was not born with rhythm or refined social grace. And my town is almost as small as your island.

ariel, it has been a long time since I met someone who actually confesses to "being that type"!

doug, golden insight. If I had a tattoo, it might say that.

Old Mule, there's a reason you needed new comrade in arms. :)

Doug, did you mean "cream" ?

Ooooh drunken debauchery! I'm all over that!!! Thankfully I've never pulled a Minka (phew).

The Old Mule said...

ariel, would that be you or Dr. Waits? I'd take either.

jh, nice! We have a new verb: to pull a Minka.

I pulled one bad.

Have you got over your hangover yet? Rustling up the pond, that sounds like fun - I haven't done that in ages, but maybe it's about time. Now I just need a babysitter...

I'd like to see u doing that :)

Sometimes it's good to lose control. It sets u free.

Keshi.

theresa, yes, by might alone I made it through. Now I am off to a Memphis wedding where I am sure to follow suit. Damn me, sometimes.

keshi, there is a distinct pleasure in hedonism that the Greeks kept whispering about.

Tcha, the "day after" becomes longer and longer with the years ...

The Old Mule said...

mago, I keep hearing that, but every year I get younger.

Minka said...

Jenna, I do it once a year in style :) I bet youa re up to little mischiefs more often :)

Mule, see? Continents apart, yet the same disabilities present throughout.

And boy, am I glad I inspired a new phrase comemorationg drunken and late-night behaviours. My parents will be so proud!

all in jest minka, we all know you to be a fine equestrian and a woman of honor and tact!

Minka...sadly...no. My drunken debauchery is rather tame. Perhaps we should shake up this thing next March? Oooh. Two clumsy girls alcoholized. Wow...do you think Doug will need to put down a damage deposit?

i gave up drinking almost 30 years ago (a'yup, i was one o' them young alcoholics). i have to say the ONE thing i haven't missed once is the way i used to feel the next day. oy... that said, there's nothing worse than making a fool out of yourself and NOT being able to blame it on anything besides your own idiotic actions. sigh.

hope you're feeling better. i'm guessing you do. ; ) xox neva
