Arkansas will take weeks to settle in. I saw a great section of our country, and I need to sieve it through, turn it over, dwell a bit on all those dry spaces, those well worked fields, the hard folks with stories and a small piece of land. When a person is standing in the City, it is so easy to mis-remember how days here pass with slow-steady purpose and all well in good tune and manner.

I am back at my wood desk with a lot of new ideas. I hope I can keep a few in place - make them stay. The windows are open tonight. A great rain outside. There is a bit of cool here with the weather - a chance to air things out.

Sounds like you enjoyed yourself - at least the journey and I guess that's what it's all about right?

ps: Any dancing on the tables at the wedding?

ah, the city guy is touched by the village, the world we live in and life in general.

I love the photo. I love rain too. glad you feel better.

I've been to Arkansas... Mom grew up there near Little Rock. Nice country - extremely nice people. Lots of bugs - those cicadas scared the you-know-what out of me with their screaming non-stop carcophany of sounds... saw my first fire flies there, braving the horrible mosquitos in order to watch them at night, and also saw my very first beautiful male cardinal there. Love your pictures

jh, those lips just cheer me up. Yes, it was pure debauchery. But I don't want any of you getting the wrong idea. This is not common practice among mules and unstalled horses. I promise. When the headache powders take hold, I may come off some more details.

ariel, now you know me well enough to be certain that I would never call myself a CITY GUY!

I am glad you liked the photograph. That is a Mississippi Delta crew unloading sacks of fresh oysters.

tsduff, I met an old friend of mine at the wedding who is now a doctor in Little Rock. He loves it there, and has really made a home of it. Small, tree-lined neighborhood, nice folks, plenty of air. And yes, we had some bugs too. But they just seemed part of the picture.

I some an amazing blackbird with a red wing. I know nothing of birds, but it was a sight.

ariel, too much coffee, unless someone has hijacked MY blog! I would be so lucky. Hope your day is even keeled. :)

People are fascinating until they're neighbors. I don't know where Steinbeck was from but I bet he didn't write about it.

Was it one of these fine fellows you saw? They sing a lovely song while perched in marsh or field lands...

jh, a debauched mule is a woesome sight. I really don't know what my deal is with new avatars - I think it is deep rooted commitment issues. haha.

ariel, I was just jabbing at you. :)

doug, the Salinas boys were all a bunch of drunks and roustabouts. My neighbors pay their taxes and monitor mutual funds. Maybe I should move west.

ts, yes! Thank you. I love that bird. I think the fellow was chirping away at something. Maybe a worm or a lass.

minka, thank you so much. Enjoy your stay with the horses!

neva, you are always so kind. Thank you. I am busy mis-remembering this whole week. But that's another post.
